ORAL PIERCING AFTERCARE

  1. Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon non-iodized (iodine free) sea salt to one-cup (8-oz) warm distilled water. Rinse with this solution twice daily for at least 60 seconds.
  2. Any time that you eat or drink anything other than clear water rinse mouth out for 30 - 60 seconds with warm distilled water.
  3. Use an alcohol free antiseptic mouthwash, such as Biotene or Tech-2000, twice daily, morning and night, as directed on label.
  4. Check piercing twice daily with clean hands to ensure that jewelry is still tight.
  5. Gently sucking on ice for the first few days can help to reduce swelling.
  6. If you are not allergic, use an anti-inflammatory (such as Aleve, Ibuprofen, Motrin, etc.) as directed on the product label to help relieve swelling and discomfort for the first few days.
  7. NO SMOKING, NO DRINKING ALCOHOL, NO ORAL CONTACT for at least two weeks.
  8. Replace your toothbrush with a new soft bristled toothbrush.
  9. When brushing your teeth, be sure to gently brush your tongue and jewelry.
  10. For the first few days do not attempt to stick your tongue outside of your mouth.
  11. Do not play with or chew on your jewelry.
  12. At the first sign of infection go to your healthcare provider. Signs of infection include Pain, redness, pus, swelling, foul odor drainage, and heat to the site. Be advised that some swelling, redness, and discharge to the site are normal.
